Life's a Peach in Georgia

Peaches are one of the best fruits around. Not only are they delicious but you get so much out of each bite. These contain vitamins A and C, potassium, fiber and many others. Peaches are also great for keeping your cholesterol levels down. There is no better place to look for the perfect peach than in Georgia. Picking the best Georgia peaches can be something tricky though.

To pick the best Georgia peaches there are several things that you will want to remember. The appearance of the peach itself will tell you a lot. Peaches that are green are not ripe enough; those that are shriveled are old. Make sure that the peach you choose has a yellow or creamy gold under color. You will also want it to be firm to the touch but don't press it so that you don't bruise it.

Smell can be a good way to choose your peaches. These fruits have a distinct smell that is like no other. A mix of scents that is somewhere between flowery and sweet, which is most obvious when it is ripe; if you land yourself a peach which isn't ripe yet then you can just set it on your counter for a day or too. The room temperature will help it ripen. Once it's ready it should be refrigerated and used within a week.

Fresh isn't the only way that you can have your peaches. There are many other ways that you can have this fruit. Some favorite recipes for this will include peach pie. Nothing says home more than this. Peach preserves are also a great hit, and the best part is that it keeps very well. Peaches can also be served with pancakes or waffles, poached in syrup or mixed with your favorite muffins. Creativity is your only barrier.

You can even make money out of what you make with your peaches at a Georgia craft show. Something with a touch of home will surely be a great hit at something like this.
