The Drawbacks Of Pay Per Click Advertising

By Brian Basch

Pay per click advertising is the latest and greatest thing to hit the Internet. It seems that everyone wants to give it a try. The concept of just writing an ad and leaving the work to the search engines is very tempting to advertisers.

Pay per click seems like the perfect union of advertiser and search engine. It is simple to do. The advertiser creates and ad based on keywords, and will pay the search engine to do all the word. Leads will be generated, by the search engine, with these keywords, for the advertiser. The ads are seen in the search results that are relevant to the keyword that is typed in.

But do not be fooled! Pay per click is not quite that easy. This is because a certain amount of keyword research needs to be done. You cannot get away with plain tracking of the ad. Many popular keywords bring up a vast array of pages in one search result. On average the searchers will not look through more than the first 5-10 pages. This means Your ad must be shown in the first 5-10 pages range.

Another complication is the fact that positioning in the search engines is determined by how much money the advertiser can bid per click on a particular keyword. With traditional advertising you pay a flat fee for the amount of time you want the ad to run, not on how many visitors the ad drew. Advertisers started to understand that this type of advertising was very expensive.

Next came pay per click advertising. It was a simple idea; advertisers were charged a small amount of money every time somebody clicked on their ad. Advertisers would earn more if they had a larger amount of clicks. The next step was to get a good position for your ad. In order to achieve this the advertiser would need to make the highest bid.

You need to be careful with pay per click advertising. This is because costs can soar and before you know it you are out of a lot of money. This is because ads that are in good positions will generate a lot of traffic, which does not always convert to sales. This will turn out to be very costly.

There are a lot of stumbling blocks with pay per click advertising, especially if you are new to the game. It is nothing like the easy ride the ads tell you about. However there is a ray of light in that there are many places you can go to get assistance and there are also other marketing options you can consider.

It is important not to rely on one source for promoting your business. Savvy marketers use multiple ways to market their businesses and rapidly develop them into profitable concerns. - 15359
