Should my Domain Contain My Keywords?

There are really two answers to this question. First of all if you are starting a new business, and have yet to register your domain, then yes, register a domain that has your keywords in it. It is best to use hyphenated keywords. The reason for this is if people like to your site naturally, chances are they are going to link to your domain. If you have your keywords in your domain, this will help with your links that you do not receive anchor text.

I like to use Hotels.com as my example. This site ranks in the first position for the word hotels. May I add that the word Hotels is one of the most competitive, highly searched terms on the Internet. The reason they rank this high is because most people link to them with hotels.com as the anchor text. This guarantees them that their anchor text on links contains the word hotels. By registering a domain with your keywords in it, this guarantees the anchor text in all links to your site has the keywords in it that you desire.

Google gives no preference to sites with the keywords in their domain. What I mean is, just because you have the keywords in your domain, does not make Google or any other search engine think your site is more relevant. That's where content and links serve a purpose. Just because you don't have the keywords in your domain does not mean you can't rank well for keywords. It only means that when people naturally link to you, they may not have the anchor text you want. The link is still valuable.

We can prove this with my site http://www.article-submission-express.com. So far all the links that I have obtained to my website contain the key words article submissions. I rank on page 11 with the phrase article submissions, however article submission which is in my domain is not one of my ranking keywords at this point in time. My focus is to do one keyword at a time, even though most of the gurus recommend several keywords at a time. I follow the human principle, that we can only succeed if we focus on one thing at a time. I feel that concentrating my focus on one keyword at a time will allow me to eventually achieve all rankings that I want for each keyword.

To conclude, do not go out and register a domain name if your current one does not have the keywords in it. If you were to do this and copy the old site to the new site, Google may punish them both for having duplicate content. Yes that is correct Google does search for duplicate content, that is why my article submission methods are so effective. Keep the domain you already registered and go out and build links to your sites with the keywords in the anchor text. Do it with article submission, this is the easiest way to get relevant one way links. It's nearly all I do anymore, and I have a lot of sites. - Articles become viral several webmasters use them to add content to their site and each time they do it they link to you.

- The links they add are counted as votes for your website being relative to the keywords you choose in your anchor text.

- When this site sends out my article they send out unique versions of it. They do this by having me submit 3 versions of the same article. Then they mix up my versions even more and distribute them. This way each site can have their own version which makes my article more valuable to them, and the links more valuable to me.

- They also have a tested strategic method of submitting articles so that the search engines give them more value. I hate wasting any time so this is just what I need.

- Most of all I save all that time submitting, this is automatic. The only steps for me is write and submit.
