Overly Effective

By Sam Weyland

A few days ago, I went over to a friend's house in light of research. My friend, quite recently, had his concrete floor polished, so I took the chance to take a peek at it. He did seem a bit too excited about the floor he had polished. In any case, he made a really nice cup of cappuccino with the new espresso machine he got.

I went over and the first thing that caught my eye was the floor. Maybe it was because I was used to seeing the old ugly flooring he had. It was indeed beautiful. It was clearly the most noticeable thing in the interior, even though he had everything else newly renovated.

Although that might be the one bad thing about it. Your floor should probably complement the whole of the house's interior and not stand out from the rest of the place. To give my friend his due, it wasn't like he didn't try to; his house that a standard motif that was followed even by the concrete floor. But even so, the polished concrete floor simply stands out.

I will try to see the other types of polished concrete before making my final judgement on it. But as of now, I believe this type of floor is best for commercial purposes. Places like hotel lobbies, industrial centers, even in schools. It has a glamorous quality that is not suited for the home so as much as possible, avoid it. Or make sure your home is completely glamourous itself to strike the right sort of balance.

And to be fair, it wasn't that bad. His home is still generally pleasing to the eye. And it seemed like he wanted his floor to stand out, so kudos to that friend of mine. In addition, I should applaud the relatively little expense that he paid for it. This benefit will also be reinforced if concrete polishing does last; as you don't have to pay for upkeep. Time will tell. - 15359
