How Important is Dinner Reservations?

By Peter Hallway

Folks eat at restaurants. Some eat out once a week, some monthly, and some even every day. Restaurant meals are common at lunch for white collar workers. Some working families don't have time to cook so they eat out each evening. Often people can walk into an establishment and find a table. But sometimes a dinner reservation is needed in order to be seated. Without a reservation a person won't eat there.

Many restaurants take reservations, usually in the evenings and especially on weekends. Fancy places require reservations months in advance. And some are so exclusive that it's a miraculous event to acquire reservations. Is food that important that people will fight for coveted spots at the table? That's for the individuals to decide.

Make sure to reserve well in advance and to only reserve enough places for the expected guests. There are exclusive restaurants out there. Don't wait too long or you risk missing out on an evening. It might also mean a small table can be had, so fewer people can join you. Wasted spaces often result from reserving too early. Restaurants don't take kindly to that. Bad service could result from an unhappy restaurant staff or manager.

Sometimes the customers do the wrong thing when it comes to reservations. However, sometimes it's the restaurant doing the wrong thing. A 7PM reservation turns into being seated at 9PM and eating at 10PM. This may result in customers no longer patronizing that restaurant. But some exclusive establishments do this as part of the plan. Dishonoring a reservation is par for the course here. Many people will pay well for the experience of being treated like trash.

There are now even companies that manage restaurant reservations. Many of these are on the Internet and have a lot of positive feedback. One customer said she made reservations for her son's graduation. When they arrived at the restaurant it was all on the computer, and a special room had been set aside for the occasion.

A dinner reservation is often wise. Of course, the restaurant has to uphold it. If not, express your displeasure. Stop giving them your money and tell your friends to do the same. - 15359
