Scotland Camper Hire

By Craig Wilson

Hiring a motorhome for travel around Scotland is a popular option for travelers to the northern regions of the UK. It could be the coastal scenery, the mountains and lakes or even the friendly people you meet on the way. Here are some suggested camper van routes that you may enjoy.

One of the attractions of hiring a motorhome in Scotland is that you are not too far away from the Hebrides, where you'll find some excellent campsites. Glasgow to Oban and then on to one of the main Hebridean islands is a popular route. It only takes around a three-hour trip from Glasgow to Oban. Time enough so that you can get to know your van before settling down for the night. One of the highlights in this region is Loch Lomand, along with a choice of overnight camp sites. Enjoying in the sights, breathing in the fresh air and take the pace of life down a notch or two and you have all the ingredients for a great trip.

Mull is the second largest Hebridean island and a marvelous motorhomers destination. An abundance of wildlife can be found here. Home to the famous Golden Eagles, you may also see otters, Minke whales and dolphins around the islands. The island is a great place to also get out of the motorhome and take a walk among the peace and quiet of the hills and near deserted bays.

Moving onwards, take the Mallaig road and stop off at your leisure. Arisaig is where you will find most of the camp sites and you could spend a few days here to really see all that is available. Surrounded by stunning scenery, this area is a must see for all who visit the Hebridean islands.

To complete the tour, take your camper van to Skye by ferry, don't worry it's just a small crossing that will get you to another history laden island. Visit the Tallisker distillery or the many sights of Gaelic history. Leaving Skye, you can head across the bridge back to Glasgow the starting point of our tour.

The drive back to Glasgow will be the cherry on the cake. High mountains and yes, walls are among the impressive sights you'll see on the way back. This is a real stop for camper vans, before you enter Loch Lomond Park once more. For first time camper van hirers, this is an excellent route to introduce you into the freedom lifestyle and one that will stick in the memory for a long time to come. - 15359
