Designing Rules

By Herbert Reich

The dream is a dream of home-ownership world-wide. It's the dream of having a home that is a warm, safe, beautiful haven. Some want to achieve a plush, luxurious look; others may want one that is classic yet contemporary. A lot of people want to go for ethnic style these days. So what's your choice? You can change the whole look of your home on a budget that suits you, if you have some idea about interior design.

Design is the process of creating, planning, and aesthetically decorating a space. This includes furniture layout, selection of drapes and upholstery, flooring, wall art, landscapes, and even knick-knacks to beautify a space. The whole point is to improve a space, so it becomes nice and comfortable for living or working in. Interior design means that such aesthetic processes will take place inside a building or any such structure. It could be a home or an office. Budget is an important factor, if you want to do up a space with the help of a professional interior designer. Measurements are pivotal. You can stick to your budget and still do this efficiently, what with the various new interior design software that has hit the market of late.

Human nature is open to change. So it's natural if you have a sudden longing to see your home all revamped, with new paints, new artwork, new accessories and a new fresh look. Interior design is all about ideas, but those who want to take it up as a profession have to study about it in college. Common men like you and I can do it too, but we need help from interior design software or a professional interior designer.

Some interior design programs teach you to design from scratch. They help you choose the appropriate color schemes, and even paintings you can put up on your walls. They create a pseudo space on the computer screen and help you get a feel of what the proposed design will look like, if implemented. A mistake won't cost you anything. You can make choices from a myriad range of looks and finishes. There are a number of qualified programs available: the possibilities are endless.

In the end, interior design is not just about good taste and high-priced furniture. It is an amalgamation of various design elements working in harmony. Bringing together space, color, light and design is an art form. Accordingly, it takes a keen eye and the proper education to bring a world of ideas to life. - 15359
