Yes, You Can Sing in Tune!

By Georgia Reader

Singing in tune or possessing good intonation is a skill that is much respected because it means that every pitch is perfect. Most singers really want to be able to sing in tune, and some have the coveted talent to be able to sing perfectly in tune. But the truth is that for other singers, this skill of good intonation can be developed in time with practice and perseverance.

If you want to sing in tune, the basic skills you need are training your ear to listen and daily repetition. Try recording your singing exercises and train yourself to listen to the exercises to hear if you sound sharp or flat. Note whenever you sound sharp or flat work on the sections of songs or exercises so that you can improve.

You can sing in tune if you use certain techniques such as learning to breathe properly with the diaphragm everyday. This will help make your breathing stronger, and you should also use your head voice while singing. Get plenty of sleep before you sing, and concentrate on the pitches as you sing so you stay in tune.

Attempt some singing exercises to help yourself get started. One technique is to inhale deeply, then sing each note of a scale for as long as you can until your voice simply stops. When you are doing doing this, you can sing some staccato notes with a tongue twister, for example, as this will work on the range of your voice.

Similarly, before you start singing, make sure that your body is in a good position to start singing. Make sure that you keep your shoulders back, the muscles of your abdominal cavity relaxed while your feet remain forward. Remember that the air in your body should have as unobstructed a passage as possible, so don't slouch or twist.

Just take it easy and be calm! Just before you begin singing, move your shoulders around for a few seconds, then move your head and neck in a circular motion. Reach out with your fingers and move them slowly. Lastly, you can raise each foot and move in a circular motion with your toes. You can feel more relaxed so that you will be able to practice on singing in tune with more accuracy.

Keep in mind that when you have the correct posture and feel less stressed, and feel aware of the tension in your body. When you keep your posture upright you will clear the airway for your breathe to go through from the lungs. Doing this will add more power and projection as well as better intonation for your voice when you sing.

All of these techniques, when you have plenty of practice and active listening, will improve your ability as a singer and your ability to maintain proper intonation. Understand that most vocal skills work together so that they optimize the power of your voice. As a singer it is very important you work on your intonation as a singer, especially when you perform in front of an audience. - 15359
