Some Common Myths About Acne Skin Care

By Kyle Richey

It's really surprising to know that there are so much of misinformation about skin problems and treatment of acne. Many of these misconceptions may be ineffective treatments. Some of them may even be damaging and may even aggravate the acne condition.

The good news is that acne skin care is not that difficult, if you know the real truth about what causes this skin condition and what you can do about it.

The causes of acne are now known. Human skin has innumerable pores that collect dust and pollutants from the atmosphere that the skin is exposed to. These pollutants irritate the skin and cause pimples that we term as acne.

However, good acne skin care is important especially for those who live or work in highly polluted environments, or who work someplace where their skin is going to get dirtier than average. This can include working in landscaping or manufacturing facilities where there is a lot of powder or other irritants and elements.

Figure out for yourself what kind of environment you are exposed to and whether you need specialized skin care or simple precautions like a good face wash or scrub will do.

The skin produces oil that is quite natural this oil is the natural protection for the skin. It preserves the skin's moisture and prevents the skin from becoming too dry and start cracking or flaking off. Skin of younger people generally produces more grease but oily skins can also occur in adults. The problem is that the dirt and pollutants collect more on oily skins and may not get removed just by washing with water. Therefore, for people with oily skin, skin care becomes more important.

There is a common superstition that since the oil and the dirt cause acne you must get remove it anyhow even by using harsh products which actually irritate the skin and cause even more problems. That may not be good skin care.

It is good to keep in mind that the drier the skin gets the more oil it tends to produce. Harsh de-oiling products may actually irritate skin besides causing it to produce more oil and thereby aggravate acne.

And not all breakouts and blemishes are caused by dirt and oil; this too is a common misconception when it comes to acne skin care. Sometimes very sensitive skin will breakout into blemishes when it is irritated by products that contain dyes, perfumes, or other elements.

Sometimes, even just a new product that your skin is not used to can cause breakouts! This is why it's important to use gentle products when you cleanse and moisturize for your acne skin care. - 15359
