Learn How To Sing On Your Own

By Thomas L. Smythe

It may surprise you but some singers were not born with the ability to sing. It sounds funny, but if you can talk or can sing. And if you want to sing, there are ways to improve your singing skills through different methods that you use, the time you spend to apply these methods, and your discipline.

As you start learning the basics of voice, you will discover that other parts of your body such as the lungs, shoulder, neck, nasal area, parts of the mouth and the diaphragm all play a role in your singing. They all work in conjunction with each other and your vocal cords as you sing. Make your fitness and physical condition your top priority as you learn the basics of singing so that it becomes routine for you.

You need to realize that singers can train their muscles in a way reminiscent of athletes training theirs. Learning to sing, thus, is like learning to play a sport, and you have to practice to get better. You have to learn various techniques like proper breathing, air flow, finding your pitch, projection, breath control, phrasing and, of course, music theory.

When you train yourself to practice breath control, you will find your singing improved. Good breath control goes hand in hand with your vocal exercises and warm ups, and with repetition you will do it naturally. It will help you express emotions while you sing also. If you emote well, the audience will feel more involved in your performances.

Remember if you want to learn how to sing, you need to make the time to practice but not to do too much so you injure your vocal cords. You also need a teacher to give you directions to build a foundation, and a good teacher can be hard to find in your area. Or you can also buy an excellent singing courses designed by a fine voice teacher that is directed toward someone who is just starting out as a voice student but wants to learn more, too.

But while it's difficult to find a good vocal coach, that is not necessary these days. You can simply take one of the relatively inexpensive singing courses that are available online. If you're very dedicated to the idea of learning to sing, you should certainly try to find a teacher, but if you don't have the time, you can learn online, as it's one of the easiest and best methods.

You can develop your voice in your own home, at your own pace, whenever you have time, with online singing programs. It's a great way for beginners to get started and to learn about all the components that go with singing, such as posture, breath support, voice projection, intonation, and much more. There's less stress, no expensive lesson fees, and you do learn new skills.

You can't become a professional singer without preparing a demo tape. Nobody, be they are a potential-agent or someone else, will consider taking you on as a client or give you a contract to sign or show to perform, unless you can give them a demo tape so that they can form an idea of how you sing. Keep it with you, and constantly update or revise it so that you have your best work possible. - 15359
