Finding an Acoustic Beginner Guitar

By Mark Thompson

When you are looking for an acoustic beginner guitar there are certain things which you need to take into consideration.

Certainly, if you have he money then you should invest in as good a quality first guitar as you possibly can. The more you actually spend on the guitar then the better the quality of the tone that comes from it and it will be easier to play.

There are numerous good quality acoustic guitars available for beginners and one of the best is the Seagull S6. For this particular guitar, you will need to spend between $400 and $500. Yet even though for some beginners this is far too much money to spend it is one of the most exceptional acoustic guitars available in this particular price bracket. Today there are many professionals who have retained their Seagull S6 even though they have purchased many better quality and guitars that are more expensive over time. However if you are looking for something a little less expensive then the Washburn D10s is suitable also. This particular instrument was voted the number 1 acoustic beginner guitar by Acoustic Guitar magazine available for less than $500. In fact those who can afford to generally will purchase either of the guitars mentioned here as their first guitar.

Yet if you are someone, who does not have the budget to be able to purchase either of the above then you may want to consider getting either a Takamine G-240, Fender DG7 or Yamaha F310 which are slightly less in price. However if you only have funds of around $120 to $150 to spend on your first acoustic guitar then the Epiphone DR-100 could be the right one for you. Then when you begin to feel confident with the way you play you can then consider trading up to a much better one in the future.

What is important however is that when buying such guitars you avoid those that cost less than $100, which can be found in any discount mart. Not only are these very difficult to play even if you do have the experience but they are also not well made. This often means that there is a large amount of space between the strings and the fingerboard. So actually playing such a guitar as a beginner can be extremely frustrating.

But if you cannot afford to spend more than $100 on your guitar, rather than buying one of the above instead purchasing a second hand one instead. Go to a guitar store and check out what second hand ones they have available and try them out. As you will soon discover each one has a slightly different personality and this is often because it has been based on the guitarist who was previously using it.

Also when buying a guitar you need to take into consideration the kind of person who has used it previously. Preferably, buy one that has been well cared for as they will not only look nice but will sound much nicer too. Also trying out each guitar that you are considering buying will give you a chance to work out if it feels comfortable. If it does not even though the sound quality is good, you should never buy it.

The final thing that you should do when buying a used acoustic beginner guitar is get the sales person to play it for you. These people will be able to show you just how good the sound quality and how well it will sound when you are able to play it for yourself. You never know the assistant that has helped you may in the future be able to say to others I was the person that helped them to choose their first guitar, after you have become a great guitar player. - 15359
